The FCNA 01 ControlNet adapter module enables the connection of the drive to a ControlNet network. ControlNet is a scheduled communication network designed for cyclic data exchange. With the FCNA 01 adapter module, the ControlNet network may employ either the ODVA AC/DC drive profile or the ABB Drives profile. Both are converted to the native profile (eg, DCU or FBA) by the adapter module. In addition, two Transparent modes, for 16-bit and 32-bit words respectively, are available. With the Transparent modes, no data conversion takes place.

PROFIBUS is an open serial communication standard that enables data exchange between all kinds of automation components. The physical transmission medium of the bus is a twisted pair cable (according to the RS-485 standard). The maximum length of the bus cable is 100 to 1200 meters, depending on the selected transmission rate. Up to 31 stations can be connected to the same PROFIBUS system without the use of repeaters.

The adapter module provides galvanic isolation between the drive and RS-485 network and converts the serial communication signals of the drive to RS-485 signal levels. The adapter module has a built-in bus termination with fail-safe circuitry which can be activated with a jumper.
