Allen VonAsten

Please introduce yourself.  What’s your name, where do you live, and where did you grow up?

Allen VonAsten.  I currently live in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin…which is also where I grew up.

What is your position at Gross Automation, and how many years’ experience do you have?

I’m an Electrical Sales Engineer.  I’ve worked in this field for 37 years now, and have been at Gross Automation for 8.

What are some of your experiences that have helped you excel in your field?

I regularly participate in supplier training, spend time at our customer’s facilities and getting involved with their application.  In addition to designing panels, I also have experience building them, hands on.

What is one professional attribute that you are you most proud of?

Expert Drive Training Certification

Name some of the reasons you enjoy working at Gross Automation.

I enjoy the open atmosphere.  I’m allowed space to be creative, and have freedom when it comes to design.

What has been your proudest professional accomplishment?  What was the biggest hurdle?

We were asked to visit a Coast Guard vessel that had been out of service for almost a year.  They had an issue that numerous contractors attempted to diagnose and solve, but had not been successful.  Within an hour, I had the issue diagnosed and repaired.  Solving this issue allowed the vessel to return to service, which was very rewarding.

On any given weekend, how do you like to spend your personal time?

I enjoy spending time with my kids, as well as my grandkids.  We especially enjoy time together outside.  I also enjoy taking out my 1969 AMC AMX…either just going for a drive or attending local car shows.

It’s a friendly atmosphere.  I enjoy working with my coworkers, and appreciate the teamwork approach.

What has been your proudest professional accomplishment?  What was the biggest hurdle?

I was working with one of our customers in the Food & Beverage industry.  There was a very wide variety of mission critical problems I was addressing.  Problems that needed to be solved, or the entire facility would cease to operate.  Not only did I solve the problem, but the customer now has reduced down time, which reduces their overall cost.

On any given weekend, how do you like to spend your personal time?

I play 3v3, half-court basketball.  I also enjoy table tennis.  Otherwise, you can find me buried in a Roll Play video game, or board games with my friends.
